CITY & GUILDS LEVEL 2 WELDING SKILLS IN MMA

The qualifications at Level 2 are designed for those wishing to build on introductory skills acquired at Level 1. If you have worked or currently work in the industry and are looking to refresh your skills, progress or change employer, this qualification will give you the evidence you need to show you are capable of increasing your job prospects.

Aim of the course

The course is designed to enable candidates to demonstrate welding skills typically found in industry and associated underpinning knowledge to a level that will enable them to complete welded joints in standard welding positions and prepare them for undertaking qualifications at NVQ level 2 and at level 3.

How is it taught?

This is predominantly a practical course delivered in our workshop. It includes all the underpinning knowledge of welding as a profession, as well as the Health & Safety requirements. Alongside the practical workshop sessions, you will be expected to do a small amount of reading and internet research to answer the assessment questions at the end of the course.

You will be required to complete a single Vee Butt Joint in the flat position, Lap Fillet Joint in the vertical up position, Tee Fillet Joint in the vertical up position, Single Vee Butt Joint in the vertical up position, Tube to Plate in the horizontal/vertical position and answer a number of Health & Safety questions.

You will need to bring PPE i.e. steel toe cap boots and flame-retardant overalls. These can be borrowed from our shared facilities or purchased directly from our stockroom.

All processes are delivered on 3mm stainless steel.

Practical Skills Learning Outcomes?

Learning Outcome One – produce a butt weld in the PA flat position

Learning Outcome Two – produce a lap fillet weld in PB horizontal/vertical position

Learning Outcome Three – produce a tee fillet weld in the PB horizontal/vertical position

Learning Outcome Four – produce a tee fillet weld in the PF vertical-up position

Learning Outcome Five – produce a tube-to-plate tee fillet weld in the PB horizontal/vertical position

Knowledge Learning Outcomes?

Learning Outcome Six – know the Process and Health & Safety requirements for MMA welding.

Entry requirements

You must have completed an introductory course or have welding experience.

Further qualifications

You can progress to another welding process at Level 2 (MMA, TIG or MIG).

Sessions

This course starts every Monday at 09:30 and last for 5 days of practical training. Sessions then run 09:30-16:00 Tuesday-Friday.
